Large and well labeled controls, Tilting LCD, High resolution EVF, Easier to shoot video on this than a standard DSLR, Swift and responsive, Easy to use, ISO12800 maximum light sensitivity for shooting in the near dark without flash
Plastic-y feel to the build, Disappointing build for price tag
A good alternative option for anyone who's formerly considered a digital SLR for video as much as (or more than) photography.
Video button in an awkward place, Average amounts of detail, No progressive zoom, Kit lens only has a 3x zoom, Average sensitivity
The Alpha 55 represents another step in the merger of the camcorder and the stills camera with a very powerful autofocus in video mode. It's still very much a camera first and foremost, and using it for filming can take some getting used to....
Ignoring the shutter lag issues and dampened colours it produces, the A55 is a great piece of kit. It’s ideal for those looking to graduate from an entry-level DSLR Overall Our provides the latest photography news, reviews, previews, features and tec...
The Sony Alpha SLT-A55 is a fast camera – amazingly so at times. The main reason for this is the lack of movable mirrors inside the body. This means it's not a traditional DSLR – even though it features similar sensor technology and interchangeable lenses, and as a result you can capture up to 10 frames per second with the Sony Alpha SLT-A55. The lack of mirrors also allow the Sony Alpha SLT-A55
On the downside, the lack of moving mirrors inside the Sony Alpha SLT-A55 mean that what you see isn't exactly what you get. Instead of seeing through the lens itself, the Sony Alpha SLT-A55 uses an electronic viewfinder (EVF). It's good, but it uses more battery life than a proper viewfinder, and it can never quite match up to DSLR rivals.
Overall, the Sony Alpha SLT-A55 is an impressive piece of kit. It's well made, offers a host of decent lenses, and is incredibly quick. It's good for shooting fast moving objects then, but you'll have to get used to the electronic viewfinder. Best offe...
Quality LCD display can rotate to almost any angle, 10 fps burst mode and automatic panoramas, Great qualiy photos up to 1600 ISO, 1080i HD video with a fast autofocus and mic input, Stabilisation and GPS both included
Not quite as well made as some of its competitors, Electronic viewfinder might need getting used to, Poor battery life if you use GPS, Can't adjust the settings while recording video, Supplied 1855 mm lens isn't up to scratch
The Sony Alpha 55 is a real all-rounder whose photos are as impressive as its videos, and it also has some nice bonuses like automatic panoramas and a GPS receiver for geo-tagging. It's a real success story, so it's just a pity that the 18-55 mm lens t...

Some limitations with still photography
The Sony Alpha SLT-A55 holds its own against its competition thanks to its nice feature set and very good image quality. What sets it apart is its small size, ability to continuously autofocus while shooting video, and fast continuous shooting mode. If po...
